Yves Saint Laurent, icon, artist, one of the most influential designers in modern history and my day date last weekend.
On a gorgeous Saturday I took a day trip down to Richmond to meet my grandparents for lunch and to explore the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts exhibit Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style. Filled with impeccably curated illustrations, fabric samples, jewelry pieces and full fledged ensembles, the exhibit traced the evolution of his style from prodigy to designer. As I reminisced with hair and fashion styles of the 1970s with my grandmother and the cultural revolution of the time with my grandfather, Saint Laurent’s work bridged two generations. In reflection, it illustrated one of the fundamental abilities of his designs, to break boundaries and provoke thought but also to call to ideas that transcend decades and countries. So if you find yourself in Richmond this summer, perhaps pay a visit to our dear friend Saint Laurent xx
