Statement Monochrome

Black and white, a color duo whose very genius lies in simple contrast, is the perfect way to experiment with a statement piece.

A summer trip to London calls for a wardrobe that can adapt to sudden heat waves or chill from the fog that rises from the Thames. To compliment the clean black and white of Knightsbridge’s Victorian homes I decided on a monochrome gingham wrap blouse from Zara. If you spend even a fraction of the time that I do on social media you know that gingham is the pattern of the moment. From flirty sundresses to legs-for-days miniskirts there’s something delightful about it. And fear not, gingham is not just for days picnicking in lavender fields. With a leather jacket or skinny jeans it becomes instantly city chic. I fell for this blouse with its nearly flamenco sleeves and pearl details as I had been craving some drama in my wardrobe. To balance the outfit I chose jet black River Island limited edition Molly reform jeggings , paired with Dune’s classic chelsea boots for a long leg. These boots are my absolute favorites from shopping trips and city explorations to dancing the night away with friends. Given my predilection for drama I love to pair a bold red lip with monochrome. It evokes the old school glamour and confidence of women from generations before me. Black, white and red, utterly sophisticated and my key to playing with bold silhouettes and pattern. Add some timeless architecture and you have a look that is both modern and classic. Like a black and white photograph whose beauty lasts long beyond the click of the shutter.
