The Spring Fever Wardrobe

The Spring Fever Wardrobe

After months of short days and cold mornings that makes us want to pull the covers over our heads, I think it’s safe to say we are all well and truly tired of winter. As much as I love fluffy coats, there are only so many times you can bundle up before it all becomes rather tiresome.

Unfortunately the weather in Paris does not seem to want to cooperate with my spring fever. After a few warm days that got my hopes up, an honest to god blizzard descended on the city. A snow-covered Paris is one of the most magical things I’ve ever seen but it could not have come at a worse time for my wardrobe. Right now we’re in limbo, too early to switch out for flirty sundresses or even lightweight jackets but too late in the game to buy heavy duty winter wear. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve been spending far too much time staring at tantalizing spring fashion spreads. So what do you do when your shopping cart gets the better of you and all of a sudden you have off the shoulder tops, silk dusters & gauzy dresses en route to your house?

To everyone escaping the cold for some tropical sun, I am supremely jealous and wish you bon voyage. Fellow fashionistas stuck in winter climates, here are a few ways to transition into these new spring items without getting frostbite!

The first rule of getting away with a spring wardrobe in February is that accessories are your best friend. A fabulous hat & luxurious scarf can turn heads while also keeping you warm. For dresses & skirts I like to alternate between decorative tights & over the knee socks. This white shift dress, from the generous gals of Tobi, was the result of one of my spring fever dreams. I can’t wait to style it next month for my weekend escape to Lisbon & I am sure it will be a major player in my summer rotation. In the meantime, it’s the perfect dress for days curled up with books & blankets. Over the knee socks keep my legs warm & a cable knit pullover gives a bit of extra coziness. Add some candles & tea and I can lounge in something a bit prettier than yoga pants.

Overall transitioning your wardrobe in between seasons requires some thinking outside of the box. In my last post many of you commented that I must have been cold in my duster, it was a bit chilly but in reality I had more layers on. The longer line of a duster can create an interesting contrast with a shorter coat or jacket on top. Any fun & flirty dress worn over a pair of skinny jeans instantly becomes a tunic. Or add a turtleneck under a mini dress for a mod 1960s vibe. And when in doubt mix your lightweight pieces with heavier fabrics. Fingers crossed that soon we can switch out massive teddy coats for chic blazers, after all they say that hope springs eternal!

Xx
