Staying at Home with Holly Golightly- Recreating Breakfast at Tiffany’s

My days of late have been filled with moving to my new apartment and re-watching favorite films. While I’ve definitely succumbed to the siren song of Disney Plus and childhood nostalgia, my favorite has to be Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m currently living rather haphazardly in between houses as I make the transition from being with my family in the suburbs to my flat in DC, but there’s something about Holly Golightly’s bohemian philosophy that makes me feel better as I stumble and struggle my way through #adulting. She was the original city girl and though we’re certainly not throwing parties all night long with social distancing and quarantine in place, she’s still a source of inspiration. I know there have been moments I wish I could pull the covers back over my head and sleep all day (fabulous silk eye mask and all). Holly Golightly also seems the type to prioritize a few bottles of champagne on her weekly essentials shop, and that’s something I can get on board with. The final decision maker was Holly’s constant companion, the iconic feline named Cat, who is a dead ringer for my sister’s cat Pico de Gatto (Pico for short). I sadly had no ukelele or Givenchy black evening dress, so ‘morning after’ Holly it was. A men’s white shirt, a sleep mask from some long haul flight, and a Youtube tutorial on 1960s hairstyles later, and we were recreating Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s at home.

I hope you enjoyed the shoot, it reminded me that with a little inspiration and a little ingenuity, you can be creative no matter where you are!
