The digital detox weekend: the perfect time to put a dent in the pile of books on my nightstand!
As much as I love creating and sharing content as a blogger and interacting with all of the amazing creatives on Twitter & Instagram, sometimes a step back is necessary. Over the weekend I cut back on the amount of time I spent on social media and spent my time in other fulfilling ways. Yoga and running, talking with friends and family and some reading for pleasure. I am absolutely a bibliophile and will read almost any book published. To combine my great loves, today I’m talking my favorite books on style & fashion.
How to be Parisian Wherever You Are by Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas
This book is irreverent and fabulous. It reads like a particularly sassy friend and covers everything from love to croissants to style. At moments I laughed out loud while other provoked a headshake and a grin. For anyone enamored with France and aiming to incorporate a bit of effortless chic into their lives, I highly recommend!
Capture Your Style by Aimee Song
While I don’t do everything she suggests, simply because I’m still playing around with my brand or my fear of talking to strangers is far too strong for me to ask them to take an outfit pic, this book is phenomenal. It is undoubtedly the closest I’ve found to an Instagram bible. I adore her blog & am a dedicated follower of her Instagram, let me tell you this babe knows what she’s doing! In this book she gets really into the details of what helps to perfect a shot, whether for your own enjoyment or to get a feed that rocks. Found a 100% improvement in my photography, editing and storytelling after implementing her tips.
Love Style Life by Garance Dore
Another woman who I’d like to be when I grow up, she’s the original cool French girl. Looking back on the evolution of her style, femininity and the serendipitous journey of becoming blogger and fashion illustrator, in this book Garance opens up. Her recollections on her untamable hair particularly resonated with me! I first discovered her through a calendar of fashion illustrations, which have since been repurposed into posters for my apartment. A true gem of a human, a style icon and a marvelous writer!
I love these books because they embody what I find so enjoyable about style blogging. To me it is about storytelling, through outfits, photos and blog posts. It is sharing and learning the stories of successful, creative women. These books get to the heart of what we are all seeking: a connection. That moment when a feeling is captured in a photograph, styled with a look, or put into words.
